Most first seasons are kind of boring compared to the rest of how a series played out but and I get that sense here. Thats not to say that the first season of Dexter however isn’t brilliant. This is the start of a very good show. The writing is very thourough and consise. The lighting, music, and costumes all work for the look and feel of the show and stay consistent as well. Granted there are some leaps of faith you have to take, but what show don’t you have to do that for? Much of the seasons rely’s on the likability of the main character and Michael C. Hall is very very good as the main character. He plays him so well both as a killer and a detective. The mask he constantly refers to is almost another character in itself. The pacing of the show is done very well also. It doesn’t let all the details flow out at once but rather slow drips, letting facts about the mystery reveal themselves naturally. I really appreciate a show that doesn’t rely on cliffhangers every single episode to draw you on to the next episode. There was a point however where the show felt like it almost peaked and stayed there until about halfway through where it finally seemed to pick back up again, but again, the first half needed to be a little slow until you felt comfortable with these characters. Some of the storylines seemed to be dropped as well or rather added nothing but a distraction until the main storyline could finally start coming together. But never the less this is a very good start which I hope will continue to pick up in the next season.
